The extended AiGg team - along with our wonderful advisors - held an Ask Me Anything (AMA) Salon to address questions from our participants, and it was a wide-ranging conversation.

We’ll cover the notion of AI’s impact on the communications world in this first recap post.

Thank you to Tara Smith - Voxus PR Managing Director

Q. Tara Smith, can you talk a little bit about what you see as the biggest advantages or promises AI holds, especially for the communications world and community?

A. Absolutely. And let me just say I'm happy to be here and happy to take any questions related to marketing or communications. And I thought it would be fun since we're talking about AI, to see what AI has to say with the biggest opportunity is.

So I actually loaded that question into ChatGPT and this is what ChatGPT had to say. (Edited for clarity.)

The biggest opportunity is in enhancing personalization and efficiency across communications channels. Especially when it comes to:

Personalization, since it can analyze a lot of data and it can tailor communications and content.

Automation, so handling routine low level tasks.

Data-driven insights and predictive analytics, looking at data in real time for insights and even predicting outcomes.

Now that was a subset of its long list of things that it thought it could do. And I thought that was a pretty good start.

Begin with the end in mind

…But the thing I would add is that the end goal of any of this should be enhanced impact. That's really where I see the opportunity. Communicators can take all of this AI-enabled possibility, and make sure you're applying it in a way that really drives impact for your organization.

In that sense, I see AI as being something that augments what you're already naturally doing, and I know there's some fear around AI taking jobs or replacing people. But again, I would say it's just a tool. It's something to augment your work. It's another tool in your toolbox.

Jump in and use it!

One of the things I suggest to people - when they’re just getting started - and in a way to take out the fear factor of using AI is just to go on to a tool like ChatGPT, just like I did.

  • It takes a couple minutes.

  • Fill it out.

  • Ask it some questions, see what it has to say.

You'll find that AI can help you with ideation, and with refining ideas. It can write basic content, and you can also look at tools like Microsoft’s Copilot, which can summarize your meetings, things like that. But the best way to understand the opportunity is to just really get in there and start playing with it.
